A member of three NCAA College World Series teams, Tom Grant ranks among the best power hitters in the history of New Haven baseball.

Grant ranks tied-fifth all-time at UNH with 26 home runs, sixth in RBI with 136 and eighth in doubles with 37 from 1976-79.

His 13 roundtrippers in 1978 still remain tied for third most in a single season and, at the time, were topped only by the 14 homers hit by fellow Hall of Famer Bob Turcio in that same season. Grant is also among the top-10 in single-season RBI (t-5th, 53 in 1978) and doubles (t-10th, 16 in 1979).

Also known for his strong and accurate throwing arm in the outfield – earning six assists in 1979 – Grant helped the Chargers to four NCAA postseason berths, including three consecutive trips to the College World Series. Overall during his tenure, the Chargers were 122-24.

Following his career with the Blue and Gold, Grant was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round of the 1979 MLB Draft and played seven professional seasons, including 20 major league at-bats in 1983.
