One of the all-time leading scorers for New Haven men’s basketball, Bill Jeffress compiled 1,354 points (16th all-time) and 793 rebounds for the Chargers from 1984-88.

“Dollar Bill” was also one of the best defenders in program history, recording 172 blocked shots and 130 steals in 120 games. Until 2014, Jeffress was the only player to rank in the all-time top-10 in both categories.

Jeffress shot 54.8 percent from the floor during his career, which remains fifth all-time in school history, while he is also among the top-10 in free throws made, converting 372, third all-time. In addition, he blocked 71 shots and converted 143 free throws in 1986-87, both of which remain in the top-five in a single-season in UNH history.

He earned All-New England honors in that campaign as the Chargers made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA postseason. New Haven returned to the national stage in the following season and recorded the program’s first NCAA postseason victory.
