A two-time All-American, three-time All-Conference and four time All-Region honoree, Breanne Gleason rewrote both the offensive and defensive record books for softball during her four seasons at New Haven.
Gleason holds the Chargers records for pitching appearances, strikeouts, wins and innings pitched. Offensively she has more doubles and at-bats than anyone in program history. As a freshman, she burst onto the scene, going 21-15 with a 1.71 ERA in the circle and boasting a .355 average at the plate.
Following a solid sophomore season, Gleason flourished as one of the top players in the country as a junior and senior. She delivered more than 30 wins in the circle in each of those two seasons, combining to go 68-23 with 70 complete games and 24 shutouts.
As a senior, Gleason led the Chargers to the best season in program history. New Haven went 42-8 and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals. Individually, Gleason posted a 37-7 record with a career-best 1.28 ERA and struck out 335 batters in just 279 innings. At the plate, she led the team with a .373 average, delivering nine home runs and driving in 34. For her efforts, she was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Pitcher of the Year and an NFCA Third Team All-American.
Gleason’s legacy helped to change the landscape of New Haven softball. During her time with the Chargers, the team went to the NCAA tournament in each of her final three seasons. Her records will stand as benchmarks for future players.
