The first 1,000-point scorer in New Haven women’s basketball history, Cathy Alston remains 12th all-time at UNH with 1,310 career points.
Alston earned First Team All-New England Collegiate Conference honors in 1983-84 after averaging 12.9 points and 4.4 rebounds for a Chargers’ team that matched a then-program record 18 victories. That same season, Alston set the career scoring mark when she recorded her 1,000th career point against Bryant on December 3.
As of January 2016, she ranks fifth in career assists with 451 and slots at seventh all-time with 251 career steals. Alston also continues to rank among the top-10 in a single season in assists (151 in 1981-82, ninth) and steals (82 in 1983-84, tied-ninth).
Over her four years at New Haven, Alston helped lead the Chargers to a record of 65-45, while advancing to the New England Collegiate Conference championship game in 1982-83 and 1983-84.
