The fourth 1,000-point scorer in New Haven men’s basketball history, Don Dempsey added 931 rebounds to his 1,042 points amassed for the Chargers from 1964-68.

He was a member of the first two UNH teams to qualify for the national postseason, leading the Chargers to the NAIA National Tournament in 1966 and 1968.

Dempsey averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds per game as a junior and nearly averaged a double-double for his career with 10.5 points and 9.4 rebounds in 99 games played for the Blue and Gold.

At the time of his graduation, Dempsey was among the UNH all-time top-10 in eight statistical categories. He remains in the annals in a pair of categories, rebounds in a season with 390 in 1967-68 as well as career rebounds where he stands sixth (931).
