The original head coach of Charger men’s basketball and the first Director of Athletics at New Haven College, Don Ormrod enjoyed a fine career and was a key figure in building the athletic facilities on this campus.
With Ormrod leading the way, the Chargers won the Southern Connecticut Small College Conference in their inaugural varsity season of 1961-62 as well as in 1963-64 and 1964-65.
In the 1965-66 season – Ormrod’s last as head coach – the Chargers went 29-2 and made a trip to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in Kansas City.
He completed his career with a 124-22 record and still stands at second all-time in wins and first all-time in winning percentage (.849) in program history.
