All-America and Two-time First Team All-New England lineman Harry Boatswain was a standout during of one of the most successful four-year periods in the history of New Haven football.
The Chargers went 30-10 from 1987-90 with Boatswain paving the way for an offense that accumulated over 13,000 yards and 1,200 points during that span. In his final game as a Charger, he played every snap on both sides of the ball and scored his only career touchdown on his first-ever rushing attempt as a goal-line running back.
As of 2016, Boatswain remains the highest drafted Charger in program history as a fifth round selection (137th overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the 1991 NFL Draft. He played 74 games in his five-year NFL career – also the most by a UNH product – with San Francisco, Philadelphia and the New York Jets and was a member of the 49ers’ Super Bowl XXIX Championship team.
