Jack Nesbit replaced fellow Hall of Famer Jack Kelly at point guard for New Haven men’s basketball, and continued the team’s early legacy of success.
The Chargers went 86-23 during his four-year career with three trips to the NAIA national postseason. Nesbit was the fifth UNH player to eclipse 1,000 points with 1,113 tallies (27th all-time) from 1965-69 and, at the time of his graduation, was the program’s al-time leader with 468 career assists, which remains third most all-time.
New Haven set two school records with 29 wins and a .935 winning percentage that still stand to date during the 1965-66 season that concluded with the Chargers’ first-ever national postseason appearance.
Nesbit was also running the point for UNH’s first national postseason win on the hardcourt – a 69-68 victory over Albany State in 1967-68.
