A two-sport athlete at New Haven, Jerry Esposito was a four-year starter for the Chargers baseball team and a two-year starter for the basketball team.
His batting average was over .300 in three of his four seasons with the baseball team, including an impressive .330 batting average his freshman season, followed by a .305 and .310 average his junior and senior seasons, respectively. Esposito, both a catcher and third baseman during his career, finished with 111 base hits and a .300 average. The Chargers baseball team posted a 98-19-1 record in Esposito’s four years, an incredible .834 winning percentage.
As a member of the basketball team, Esposito played guard on teams that went 51-5 winning 91 percent of its games. The 1964 and 1965 teams captured the Southern Connecticut Small College title and the 1966 squad advanced to the second round of the NAIA Tournament.
Esposito was one of only two players to play in the 1966 NAIA’s with both the basketball and baseball teams.
