Jim Halloran, who led his team to 66 wins in two years, produced one of the best career batting averages in New Haven baseball history at .401, an average that remains fifth-best all-time at UNH.

He batted .377 in 1989 as the Chargers won the NCAA Northeast Region and finished as National Runner-Up at the College World Series, falling to a Caly Poly San Luis Obispo team that later had its participation vacated. He also finished his first season with the Blue and Gold with 50 runs scored, a mark that remains among the top-10 in a single season.

An All-America honoree in 1990, Halloran hit .437, which remains seventh best in a single season, in that season with 11 doubles to guide New Haven to a second regional crown and trip to the College World Series.

A two-year co-captain for New Haven, Halloran also played for the Bourne Braves of the prestigious Cape Cod League in the summer of 1989.
