University of New Haven Athletics

As the assistant coach to Frank “Porky” Vieira, Joe Tonelli helped guide New Haven baseball to 14 straight postseason appearances, including seven NCAA Division II College World Series and on NAIA National Tournament from 1970-83.

UNH was 381-90 with Tonelli in dugout. He left the University in 1983 to devote more time to his position as Athletic Director at Notre Dame High School in West Haven.
