New Haven baseball earned three NCAA postseason berths during the three-year career of Ken Young. The outfielder appeared in 105 games for the Chargers from 1976-78, hitting .328 with 10 home runs and 78 runs batted in.
He capped off his career with back-to-back trips to the NCAA College World Series, including three victories on the national stage in 1978 en route to a third-place finish.
Young, who was previously drafted out of high school by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1975, was chosen in the eighth round of the 1978 Amateur Draft by the Boston Red Sox and inked a professional contract. He climbed as high as the Double-A Bristol Red Sox of the Eastern League, recording over 1,200 professional at-bats with 17 home runs in four seasons with the Red Sox organization.
