A two-time All-East Region selection and a starter on four NCAA College World Series teams, Les Wallin was a career .335 hitter for New Haven baseball from 1984-87.
Wallin, who was also named First Team All-New England Collegiate Conference in both his junior and senior seasons, ranks second all-time in career runs batted in (as of Jan. 2016) with 159 and is also among the program leaders with 21 career home runs (ninth). He also hit 28 doubles and seven triples for the Chargers to round out a career .537 slugging percentage.
Wallin’s best statistical season came in 1986, when he hit .393 with 57 RBI. After leading New Haven to a 109-24 record in four seasons, Wallin signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox and rose as high as Double-A New Britain in the Eastern League. He logged six seasons of minor league ball, smacking 50 professional home runs with 256 RBI in over 2,000 at-bats with the Boston organization.
