A 2009 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American, Mallory Ferrandiz becomes the first women’s lacrosse player inducted into the New Haven Athletics Hall of Fame.
Quick to contribute on the field, Ferrandiz led the Chargers with 63 points in her rookie campaign, including 49 goals and a team-best 14 assists. Her 4.38 draw controls per game as a rookie remain the second best single-season average in program history. Following the 2006 season, she garnered All-New York Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team honors and was named to the WomensLacrosse.com national All-Rookie Team.
As a sophomore, Ferrandiz started the first six games before missing the remainder of the season due to injury. Over those six games, she scored 19 goals and assisted on six others, averaging 4.2 points per game. She netted a career-high seven goals against St. Andrews Presbyterian as she finished that game with a career-high eight points.
In 2008, Ferrandiz returned to start 15 games, leading the team with 19 assists and third on the team with 36 goals, including a trio of game-winners. She led the team with 50 draw controls and caused a team-high 22 turnovers. Among her team-high 19 assists was five in a single game against Southern Connecticut, tied for the eighth most in program history. Tabbed the team MVP, Ferrandiz earned IWLCA All-North Region and collected her second All-Conference accolade, picking up second-team All-East Coast Conference distinction as a junior.
Ferrandiz capped her career by earning the program’s first-ever IWLCA All-America First Team distinction while helping lead the Chargers to a school record 16 wins, the program’s first Northeast-10 Conference Championship and bid to the NCAA Tournament. As a senior, she finished with career-highs in goals (42) and assists (28) for a total of 70 points. She also led the team with 59 draw controls and 44 caused turnovers, both of which remain among the top-10 in program history. The All-American was also named an All-Region and All-Conference First Team honoree as well as being recognized as the team MVP for the second straight season.
Ferrandiz’ name will forever remain etched in New Haven’s career record book as she currently ranks third in assists (67) and fifth in points (213). She’s also second in program history in draw controls (202), third in game-winning goals (9), fourth in caused turnovers (104), sixth in free position goals (32) and seventh in goals scored (146). Over her four-year career, Ferrandiz led the Chargers to a 42-28 record which included a perfect 11-0 mark at Kayo Field in 2009.
Following her graduation, Ferrandiz began her coaching career with the Chargers, serving as an assistant for Jen Fallon from 2010-11. She’s currently in her third season as head coach at Lake Erie College where she has led the Storm to back-to-back appearances in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Championship Tournament.
