PHOTO GALLERYOne of only two players to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in the University of New Haven women’s basketball history, Tiesha Grace-Cobb ranks as one of the most productive players to ever play on the UNH basketball court.
As a freshman, Grace-Cobb jumped right into the mix for the Chargers. She registered 13 double-doubles and led the team with 11.2 rebounds per contest. Her rebounding average was good enough to finish second in the conference, one-tenth of a rebound behind the leader. She scored a season-best 30 points and scored ten or more points 16 times.
Grace-Cobb established herself as one of the top rebounders in the New England Collegiate Conference and the nation as a sophomore. She finished the season averaging 12.9 rebounds, leading the conference and placing sixth in the NCAA. Grace-Cobb brought in 10 or more rebounds in 22-of-28 games and garnered a career-high 21 rebounds midway through the season. Offensively, she was just as productive averaging 13.7 points per game. Grace-Cobb added another 18 double-doubles and an All-NECC Second Team selection to her basketball resume that season. She also led the 1995-96 Chargers to the NECC playoffs for their second-straight season.
In 1996 Grace-Cobb was selected the team co-captain and was an All-ECAC Second Team selection, despite missing the last 11 games due to injury. She averaged a career-high 16.8 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. She recorded another nine double-doubles and shot a career-high 46.4 percent from the floor. Grace-Cobb helped the Chargers off to a solid start in 1996-97, one which propelled the team to the NECC semifinals.
In her senior season, Grace-Cobb ranked third in the conference in rebounding and sixth in the conference in scoring. Continuing her previous successes, Grace-Cobb amassed another seven double-doubles her senior year. She also scored a career-high 385 points and grabbed 215 rebounds on her way to earning All-NECC First Team accolades.
Grace-Cobb totaled 1,347 points, 1,047 rebounds, 170 steals, 105 assists and 71 blocks during her four seasons. The Roosevelt, N.Y. native recorded 47 career double-doubles, shot over 43 percent from the field and played in nearly 100 games. At the time of graduation, she ranked sixth in career scoring and second in career rebounding at UNH. She still ranks second in rebounds and currently ranks 11th in scoring. She also has two of the top ten single-season rebounding marks and helped guide the Chargers to four-straight postseason appearances.
