The New Haven baseball program went 98-26 with four postseason appearances and three trips to the NCAA College World Series during the four-year career of Tony Buglione.
A career .300 hitter, he recorded 32 doubles, five triples, a career record-tying 29 home runs and 118 runs batted in in 124 games for Head Coach Frank “Porky” Vieira. He recorded 276 total bases in his tenure at UNH, good for 10th on the all-time list, while he remains first all-time in sacrifice fly's with 11 total.
Buglione was the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Most Valuable Player as well as All-Northeast and All-New England in 1985 and was a two-time All-NECC honoree.
Also a 1984 draft pick of the Seattle Mariners, Buglione was drafted in the 18th round and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1985 Major Leage Draft, one of five players taken following the 1985 season.
He played one season at first base and catcher with the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League, batting .257 with six home runs, 13 doubles and 37 RBI in 206 professional at-bats.
