NEW ORLEANS – Eight members of the University of New Haven women’s track and field team have combined to earn 16 All-East Region honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Ada Udaya (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) led the way with four all-region nods.
The USTFCCCA defines all-region as the top five from each region in individual events and each member of the top-three relay teams from each region.
Individually, Udaya was recognized in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. She is the Northeast-10 and New England Champion and has qualified for this weekend’s NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in both sprints. The NE-10 Athlete of the Year, Udaya was two-time All-America during the indoor season.
Udaya is also a member of two all-region relay teams. The NE-10 and New England Champion 4x100-meter relay team comprised of
Briana Conyers (Derby, Conn./Hill Regional Career), Udaya,
Alissa Howell (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and
Marshae Holt (Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) posted a top time of 46.47 seconds to break the New Haven and NEICAAA Championships meet records en route to qualifying for the national field at the NCAA Championship meet.
The 4x400-meter relay squad – featuring the foursome of
Monica Yanez (West Haven, Conn./West Haven),
Ivy Watts (Waltham, Mass./Waltham), Udaya and Holt – logged an All-East time of 3:45.49 to place second at NEICAAA Championships and shattered the program record that the quartet had set just one week earlier en route to an NE-10 Title. The 4x400-meter relay will also compete for a national championship this week.
Yanez also claimed two individual All-East nods on the track. The junior is the New Haven program record holder in both the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles, finishing in the top four at the Northeast-10 Championships in both events.
Conyers was also lauded in the field for her performance in the triple jump this spring. An All-America honoree in the event during the indoor season, Conyers placed second in the triple jump at both the Northeast-10 and New England Championships and will compete at the NCAA Championships this weekend. She holds both the indoor and outdoor triple jump records at New Haven.
Joining Conyers as All-East in the triple jump is
Tiara Mitchell (Westbury, N.Y./Old Westbury). The sophomore placed fifth at the NE-10 Championships and third at the New England Championships in the event, recording a top flight of 11.81 meters this spring.
Rounding out the list of honorees is two-time All-East thrower
Shraya Manick (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross). Manick claims all-region recognition in the hammer throw and the discus throw. She won a Northeast-10 crown in the hammer throw and unleashed a season-best heave of 50.24 meters at the Penn Relays. In the discus, Manick placed second at the NE-10 Championships with a personal-record toss of 43.59 meters. Also a top-10 performer in both events at the NEICAAA Championships, Manick holds five New haven program records.
