MAHWAH, New Jersey. – After a week off since their trip to South Carolina where the University of New Haven Men's and Women's Track competed in two meets, the teams returned to the Track competing at the Ramapo College Invitational competing not only against other teams but also against the weather as rain and wind continued to hit the track during competition.
In the men's 100-meter dash, Jason Lorent (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) qualified for the event's finals, running the third fastest time of qualifying crossing in 10.94. In the finals, Lorent ran a time of 10.97, finishing him third overall and earning six points for the blue and gold.
Jordan Emilie took home the win for the Chargers in the 110m Hurdles running a winning time of 15.28 winning 10 points for the Chargers overall.
Mackenzie Lachance (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) finished fourth overall for New Haven in the Javelin Throw. Lachance who got her mark on her second throw threw 32.79m. After opening up with a throw of 29.24m, Lachance quickly responded with her best mark throw of 32.79m. That mark would hold in the event taking fourth overall all scoring five points for New Haven.
Cole Parker (Severn, Md./Annapolis Area Christian School) finished second overall in the sand pit after jumping 6.64m in the long jump. The sand pit is the Charger's second home and Parker called it his home. Parker opened up the event with a jump of 6.49m. Parker would then dial things in and found his best mark on his final jump. With his final jump, Parker jumped 6.64m moving him into second place and taking home eight points for the Chargers.
Jordanny Dely finished fourth overall in the triple jump finishing with a mark of 13.24m. Dely who opened with a jump of 13.09 worked to find his right stride before getting his best mark on his fifth jump. With two jumps to go Dely jumped 13.24m moving him to fourth and winning five points for New Haven.
Diana Zamudio (Huacho, Peru/Instituto Particular Abdon Calderon (Ecuador)) finished second overall in the high jump for New Haven finishing with a final height of 1.55m. Zamudio who entered at 1.45m cleared that mark on her first attempt quickly moving on to 1.50m. After narrowly hitting the bar on her first attempt, Zamudio cleared 1.50m on her second attempt. She would then clear 1.55m on her second jump finishing her second overall and scoring eight points for the blue and gold.
At the end of the two-day meet, the men's team scored 91 points, finishing third overall as the women finished fifth with 54 total points for the meet.
The teams now return to the track in a return back to New Jersey on Saturday, April 8 to compete at the TCNJ Invitational with the meet beginning in the morning. All updates, schedules, and post-game recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
