Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Chargers Topped at Assumption, 5-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team was on the short end of a 5-1 result on Wednesday evening at Northeast-10 opponent Assumption. Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate) scored the Chargers' lone goal in the match.

With the loss, New Haven now stands at 2-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in NE-10 play. The Greyhounds improve to 3-1-0 on the season with a 2-0-0 conference tally.

Stein's goal was her second of the fall. The sophomore took a feed from Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport) and blasted a shot from the top of the box in the 11th minute to tie the match at 1-1 following a third-minute marker from Assumption's Paige Radomski.

Simms saw her three-match scoring streak come an end, but improved her team-leading point total to seven after her first assist of the season.

The 1-1 stalemate held into the final 15 minutes of the opening half. The Greyhounds broke the match open before the intermission with three late goals. Radomski completed a hat trick with two more tallies in the frame, and Tayla Morais also put one through to send the hosts into the locker room with a 4-1 advantage.

The Blue and Gold went scoreless the rest of the way, while Assumption added a 62nd-minute goal from Lindsey Miller to round out the 5-1 final tally.

The decision in net went to Moriah Saidel (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) (1-1-0), who stopped three shots in the first half. Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made her collegiate debut in the second frame, allowing one goal while making six saves.

The Chargers will continue Northeast-10 play on Kayo Field with a Saturday, Sept. 20 visit from Bentley. Action under the lights kicks off at 7 p.m.
