Tiffany Verni joined the New Haven coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2021 season, coming to West Haven following two seasons in Durham, N.H. at the University of New Hampshire.
During her tenure with the Wildcats, Verni also completed a Master’s of Science in kinesiology with a concentration in sports studies. While at New Hampshire, she helped lead the Wildcats to a 24-13 record, including an appearance in the Women’s National Invitational Volleyball Championship.
Her position at New Hampshire was her first at the coaching level after completing a successful career at NYIT where she was named the East Coast Conference Player of the Year at the conclusion of her senior season. Verni captained the volleyball team in its final season and became a dual-sport athlete her senior year, participating in track and field, when she was the first student-athlete to participate in a track and field event for NYIT after a 14-year absence of the program.
The psychology major at NYIT, Verni was named NYIT Female Athlete of the Year her sophomore, junior and senior years, and capped her senior year by taking home the Patricia Burnside Award as top NYIT Female Student-Athlete of the Year, as well as the E.C.C. Award, which is the East Coast Conference’s most prestigious honor for Excellence in Community and Character. She was also an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.
In addition to her East Coast Conference Player of the Year honors, Verni was named the ECAC Player of the Year at the conclusion of the 2018 season, where she finished the regular season ranked third in the nation in kills (503), and 10th in both kills per set (4.41) and points per set (4.8). An All-ECC First-Team honoree in three consecutive years, her other accolades included All-East Region First Team and D2CCA.
Verni left her mark in the NYIT record books, where in three years she recorded 1,508 kills (fifth in program history), 4,367 attack attempts (third) and 281 total blocks (eighth). She also set the program's single-season attack attempts record with 1,586 in 2018 to top the mark of 1,486 she established as junior. In addition, she tallied 503 kills as senior – No. 8 on the single-season list – and had a personal-best 30 kills at Mercy on Sept. 25 2018, which ranks fourth in a single match in NYIT history.
In addition to her volleyball accolades, Tiffany was named All-Conference Second Team in both indoor and outdoor track and field in 2019.
A Long Island, N.Y., native, Tiffany was an assistant coach for four years at the Island Volleyball Academy (Oakdale, N.Y.), where she coached the 17-18’s club teams from November 2015 through June 2019.
She also has experience in sports broadcasting, doing color commentary for collegiate volleyball matches for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
