Vicky Szymula will begin her sixth full season with the Chargers in 2019-20. She is the primary athletic trainer for the men’s soccer and women's lacrosse teams.
Szymula began her career working as a Student AT and per diem ATC at Cornell University from 2002 – 2005. She than was appointed as the Head ATC at The Gunnery, a private boarding school in Washington, Conn. While there, she worked as the school’s Head ATC, Strength Coach, Diversity Workshop Co-Creator, and member of the Science Department. In 2012, Szymula returned to collegiate athletics as an Assistant ATC/ Personal Trainer with Colgate University. In 2013, she began working in the industrial sector as a private contractor with Onsite Innovations while maintaining part-time employment as Colgate’s M/ W Rugby ATC.
She has further experience as an ATC with the Women’s ECAC All-Stars & USA Ice Hockey Team/ Skate to Salt Lake Tour (2001), as a member of the Summer Sports Medicine Staff at University at Buffalo (2003-2012), and as the ATC for the IWFL Connecticut Crushers (2015).
She currently holds the national certifications as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), & Certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist (COHC), and a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP). Szymula is a certified Reiki Master/Practitioner and recently completed Level 1 Dry Needling Training.
Szymula graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2003 cum Laude/ Honors Program with a BS in Athletic Training Concentration in Coaching before earning an MS in Exercise Science/Sport Psychology at Ithaca College in 2005. She obtained a post- graduate certificate in Sports Counseling from California University of Pennsylvania in 2018 and is currently working towards her Doctorate in Health Sciences from MCPHS in Healthcare Administration.
