Brian Quinn was introduced as the 15th head coach of the New Haven men’s soccer program in February 2019. Quinn is well-rooted in the Connecticut soccer landscape, bringing three decades of coaching experience to West Haven, including 16 years as a collegiate head coach.
In two seasons with the Blue and Gold, Quinn has led the Chargers to a 13-16-3 overall record, including an 8-6-2 mark in 2021. With a 5-5-2 record in NE10 play in 2021, he also led New Haven to its just its second appearance in the NE10 Championship, the first since 2010. Individually, Quinn led freshman Pau Santanach to one of the most successful seasons in program history with the rookie hauling in Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association All-America honors, which followed All-East Region First Team Honors, All-Conference First Team distinction and Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year accolades.
Prior to New Haven, Quinn served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State for two seasons. Prior to Southern, Quinn spent 16 seasons as the head coach at the University of Bridgeport where he led the Purple Knights to multiple East Coast Conference Tournament and NCAA Tournament appearances, including a conference tournament title in 2001. He amassed an overall record of 155-114-22 at Bridgeport, including a pair of ECAC Tournament titles in 2002 and 2003.
Quinn currently serves as a U.S. Soccer Development Academy coach and college placement director at the Beachside Soccer Club of Connecticut, where he oversees coaching, plans training sessions and develops game plans for teams in the club.
Since 2001, Quinn has also served on the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Committee, serving as the committee chair from 2004-2005. As a committee member, he assists in selecting teams to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship. He also oversees gameday functions at regional first, second, and quarterfinal round matches, and oversees all aspects of the national semifinal and championship matches including referee assignments and coordinating meetings.
Prior to his first head coaching stint at Bridgeport, Quinn spent 13 seasons as an assistant coach, including a five-year stint at Division I Boston University, guiding the Terriers to three NCAA Tournament appearances between 1995 and 1999. From 1987 to 1994, Quinn served as an assistant at Southern Connecticut, helping guide the Owls to five appearances in the Division II national championship game, which included three national championship titles in 1987, 1990 and 1992. During his first two years at Southern, he worked under current UConn head coach, Ray Reid.
From 1990-1993, Quinn also served as the Director of Boys Olympic Development Program with the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association. He was also the Administrator of Football at the 1995 Special Olympics World Games in New Haven, Conn.
Quinn is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. He has earned two degrees from Southern Connecticut, including a bachelor’s in physical education in 1986 and a Master of Science in physical education in 1994.
