(10-22-09) ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell 4-1 Thursday afternoon at Molloy College. The Chargers fall to 1-15 this season, while the Lions improve to 6-8-1.
The Lions opened scoring in the eighth minute, before UNH sophomore Jean Carlos Rafael evened the scored off a penalty kick in the 14th minute. The Lions add two more scores before halftime, taking a 3-1 lead at the 33:46 mark. UNH tallied six shots in the opening period, including one shot on goal.
Molloy added one more insurance goal in the 52nd minute off a through ball which found the middle of the UNH net. UNH added two shots in the second half and one shot on goal. Roberto Novoa had the Chargers best opportunity to score with a shot on goal in the 78th minute.
Rafael, Novoa and Austin Coleman each tallied one shot on goal, while Joe D'Antonio led the team with two shots. The Chargers trailed 13-8 in the shots category and held a 16-8 advantage in fouls.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday, October 24 when they travel to St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
