Charger Men's Soccer Suffers 3-2 Loss at Stonehill

(10-03-09) EASTON, Mass. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The Chargers fall to 1-9 overall and 0-9 in the NE-10 with the loss, while the Skyhawks improve to 7-4-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play.

Stonehill pulled out to a 1-0 lead after scoring a goal from the 18-yard box in the 14th minute. It did not take long for the Chargers to even the score, as Anthony Romano found the back of the net for the third time this season at the 22-minute mark. He scored off a header from teammate Nick Pezzente, who found the ball in the middle of a scramble.

The Skyhawks took the lead back in the 39th minute when they netted a header.

After halftime, the Chargers once again evened the score, at 2-2, when Nick Dionne slid a shot past the Stonehill goalkeeper in the 54th minute. Stonehill once again took the lead back, in the 65th minute when they scored their third and game-winning goal of the day.

Each team tallied 11 shots and five shots on goal in the match. The Skyhawks held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Dionne, Steven Gennuso and Jean Carlos Rafael led the Chargers with two shots, while five others added one shot for UNH.

The Charger men's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 6 when they travel to Le Moyne College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
