(10-30-09) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven football team travels to St. Anselm College this week in their final Northeast-10 Conference game of the season.
THIS WEEK'S MATCHUP
New Haven (4-4, 3-4 NE-10) travels to St. Anselm (2-6, 1-5 NE-10) today in its ninth game of the season. The game marks the fi rst meeting between the two teams. The Chargers are coming off a 49-27 stomping of Pace at DellaCamera Stadium, while the Hawks come into this week's game as losers of four-straight, including a last minute 31-28 loss to Stonehill last week. As they have done all season, the Chargers will spread the fi eld on offense. In recent weeks, however, Josh Smart has solidified a more permanent spot in the UNH backfi eld as the team's top runner. The Chargers will use a 3-4 defense, but may mix in 4-3 sets to get increased pressure on St. Anselm's passing attack. Offensively, the Hawks will use a singleback and four wide receiver set, spreading the fi eld much like the Chargers. Defensively, St. Anselm will use a three-down lineman system. On this week's two deep they have fi ve linebackers and three defensive backs.
COMMON OPPONENTS
The Chargers and Hawks have six common oppoents, all in the NE-10. The Chargers are 3-3 against those opponents, while the Hawks hold a 1-5 record. Both teams defeated Pace, while the Chargers also have wins over Stonehill and American International. Both teams have lost to Bentley, Merrimack and Assumption earlier in the season.
