(10-06-09) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team fell 3-2 Tuesday afternoon in double overtime to Le Moyne College. The Chargers fall to 6-6-2 overall and 3-6-1 in conference action, while the Dolphins improve to 8-3-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
After taking a 2-0 lead off an Alexa DellaRocco goal in the 50th minute, UNH gave up two goals in the final 11 minutes of regulation and saw a Dolphins' corner kick find the back of the net in the 123rd minute.
UNH opened scoring in the 31st minute off a Marta Bertsos goal. The sophomore received a crossing pass from DellaRocco who tallied her first assist of the season.
The Chargers improve upon a 1-0 halftime lead with DellaRocco's seventh goal of the season in the 50th minute. The Dolphins first strike came at the 79:32 mark when Christina Harrison netted a goal. Harrison added the game-tying goal in the 89th minute when she scored a header off a corner kick.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the Dolphins scored the game-winner in the 103rd minute when Courtney Paddock bent a corner kick right into the Chargers goal.
UNH held a slight 15-13 advantage in shots, but Le Moyne held a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Dolphins attempted seven corner kicks, compared to New Haven's five.
DellaRocco and Lucy Francisco led the Chargers with four shots each. Between the posts, Kim Taylor tallied four saves for New Haven.
New Haven returns to action on Saturday, October 10 when the team travels to Merrimack College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
