St. Rose Tops UNH Men's Basketball 72-65

(12-02-09) ALBANY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team fell 72-65 Wednesday night at the College of St. Rose. With the loss the Chargers fall to 0-5 overall and 0-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Golden Knights improve to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

UNH fell behind early in Wednesday's game, falling behind 13-0 after four and half minutes. St. Rose maintained a double figure lead for a majority of the first half. The Golden Knights capped a 9-0 run to take a 17 point lead with 5:13 left. The Chargers cut the lead to 12 points, 40-28, at halftime.

The Chargers gradually would chip away at the St. Rose lead in the second half. Cassius Chaney scored four of the Chargers opening six points of the second half to cut the St. Rose lead to six points. Freshman C.J. Ruskay put in a layup with 8:15 left to bring the Chargers within four points at 52-48.

St. Rrose pulled away again and led 12 points with 1:10 left. New Haven would once again cut the Golden Knights lead to four 50-seconds later. St. Rose would connect on six free throws in the final 18 seconds, however, to seal the victory.

Chaney led the Chargers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Darryl Greene added 10 points, three steals and four rebounds, while three other Chargers netted eight points.

UNH shot 38.9 percent from the floor, while the Golden Knights connected on 43.6 percent of their shots.
