Bloomfield Defeats UNH 88-68 at Adelphi Classic

(12-30-09) GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game 88-68 to Bloomfield College Wednesday afternoon. With the loss the Chargers fall to 0-10 on the season, while the Deacons improve to 8-3.

Bloomfield jumped out to a quick lead Wednesday, opening the game with a 10-4 run. James Carr hit a layup to bring UNH back within three points at the 14:53 mark, but the Deacons opened an 11-point lead after going on a 16-6 run over the next four minutes. Bloomfield led by as many as 16 points, 46-30, with 51 seconds left in the first half, but the Chargers went on a 5-0 run to close the half in a 46-35 hole.

After exchanging baskets for most of the second half, the Deacons eventually began to pull away. Bloomfield hit a layup with 6:31 left to take a 20-point lead. Minutes later the Deacons went on a 9-1 run to take a 87-60 lead with 2:33 remaining. The Chargers cut the lead to 20 points with an 8-1 run to close the game.

The Chargers were out-rebounded 55-38 and allowed the Deacons 27 offensive boards. UNH shot 41.7 percent from the floor, while Bloomfield connected on 50.7 percent. The Chargers also shot 21.4 percent from three-point territory, while the Deacons shot 43.8 percent.

Cassius Chaney led the Chargers with his second double-double in as many days, totaling 19 points and 11 rebounds. Robert Jamerson added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Sean Harris grabbed 10 points.
