(09-12-09) WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's soccer lost 1-0 to the River Hawks of UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon at Kayo Field. The Chargers fall to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the River Hawks improve to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in NE-10 play.
The River Hawks got on the board early when Kelly Soper scored off a mishandled save in the Chargers' box in the 12th minute. The Chargers held a 6-4 shot advantage in the half, but could not break the River Hawks defense.
The second proved to be just as difficult for the Chargers' offense, which was held scoreless once again by the River Hawk defense. The Chargers best opportunities came after the midway point of the half, including opportunities inside the UMass Lowell 18-yard box.
Holly Dawson led the Chargers with two shots on Saturday. Six other Chargers, including Alexa DellaRocco and Nicole Grimaldi, tallied one shot. Kim Taylor registered three saves between the posts for the Chargers.
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday September 16 when they travel to Albany to take on The College of St. Rose. The women's next home game is Sunday September 20 against Franklin Pierce at 1:00 p.m.
