Women's Soccer Falls to Nationally Ranked Golden Knights

(09-16-09) ALBANY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team fell 4-1 to the nationally ranked #3 College of St. Rose Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers fall to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Golden Knights improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the NE-10.

A Golden Knights' goal in the ninth minute pushed St. Rose out to an early lead. UNH managed to fend off another seven shots in the opening period to keep the game within one goal.

Seven minutes into the second half, however, St. Rose increased its lead to 2-0 with a shot from 35-yards out. They added one more in the 60th minute and scored their fourth goal in the 77th minute.

The Chargers lone goal came in the 87th minute, when Ali Espanol scored her first of the season off a penalty kick.

UNH was out-shot 13-5 in the game and trailed 12-2 in corner kick attempts.

Claire Siekaniec led New Haven with two shots, while Lauren Primovic and Nicole Grimaldi added one shot each.

New Haven returns to action on Sunday, September 20 when they host Franklin Pierce University at 1 p.m.
