Second Half Goals Lead Franklin Pierce Past Men's Soccer

(09-19-09) RINDGE, N.H. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team lost to Franklin Pierce University Saturday evening 2-0. With the loss the Chargers fall to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Ravens fall to 5-2-1, 3-1 NE-10.

After playing to a 0-0 halftime tie, Franklin Pierce scored in the 52nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. The shot was taken from the top of the box and found the lower left hand corner of the goal.

The Ravens added an insurance goal in the 70th minute off a goal which was rebounded and bounced back into play.

UNH totaled two shots after that, but neither found the net or goal.

New Haven trailed 14-5 in shots, and 6-2 in corner kicks to the Ravens. Jean Carlos Rafeal and Roberto Novoa combined for three shots, prior to going down 2-0 in the 70th minute.

UNH goalkeeper Jonathan Cream totaled four saves in 79 minutes of action.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, September 22 when they host Southern Connecticut State at Kayo Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
