Women's Soccer Plays to Second Straight Tie in 2-2 Draw with Dowling

(09-30-09) BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw Wednesday night at Dowling College. The tie moves the Chargers' record to 6-4-2 on the season, while the Golden Lions are now 7-2-1.

The Golden knights scored first on Wednesday night in the 21st minute. Nearly one minute later, the Chargers scored their first goal with a score from sophomore Alexa DellaRocco. Before halftime, Dowling added their second goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead. 

DellaRocco once again came through for the Chargers down the stretch, adding the game-tying goal in the 58th minute.

For the remaining 50 plus minutes (of regulations) neither team could scored a goal. In the first overtime period, Dowling had one shot on goal, but other than that neither team attempted many scoring opportunities.

DellaRocco led the team with the two goals off of three shots on goal. Holly Dawson added three shots and Lucy Francisco added two shots. Dowling out-shot the Chargers 21-12, including an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal.

UNH goalkeeper Kim Taylor stopped nine shots in all 110 minutes of action.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, October 3 when they host Stonehill College in another Northeast-10 contest. Game time at Kayo Field is set for 1 p.m.
