Chargers Defeated by Adelphi, 47-62

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team dopped a Northeast-10 Conference contest 62-47 at Adelphi University on Tuesday night in Garden City, N.Y. The loss dropped the Chargers to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the NE-10 this season. Adelphi improved to 5-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

A very low scoring first half opened with a 4-0 run by Adelphi over the first 4:05. Justin Exum immediately brought UNH back within one point after connected from downtown. The teams then exchanged baskets before the Panthers went on another run. Adelphi took a 6-7 deficit at the 12:08 mark and turned it into a 10-point 17-7 lead with 7:34 left in the half. New Haven then starting chipping away at Adelphi's lead, narrowing it to one point,19-18 in the closing minutes. The Panthers went on to score the final seven points of the half to gain a 26-18 lead at the break.

The Chargers trailed 18-26 at halftime and were led by 10 points from Rob Jamerson. UNH also shot 31.8-percent from the floor. New Haven also doubled the number of turnovers that Adelphi had with eight.

Adelphi wasted no time to take control of the game in the second half. The Panthers scored the first 12 points of the second half and opened a commanding 38-18 lead just over six minutes into the half. Adelphi maintained a two-point lead throughout the final 12 minutes of the second half to secure its fifth win of the season. UNH got as close as 12 points on three different occasions, but the rallies were not enough.

Jamerson finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while Exum added in 18 points and five rebounds. Adelphi had three players in double figures.

The Chargers led 29-28 in reounding, while trailing 35.7 percent to 47.1 percent from the floor. New Haven turned the ball over 18 times, while Adelphi coughed the ball up 11 times.

New Haven will travel to Bloomfield College in its next contest on Sunday, December 19. Tip off in New Jersey is set for 3 p.m.
