(02-13-10) SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team fell by a score of 67-66 Saturday afternoon to Le Moyne College. With the loss New Have falls to 4-19 overall and 4-15 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Dolphins improve to 16-8 overall and 12-7 in the NE-10.
Neither team led by more than four points in the opening 15 minutes Saturday afternoon. With 5:49 left in the half, freshman C.J. Ruskay hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 22-22. Le Moyne then went on a 9-5 run to close the half with a 33-29 lead. A last-second three-pointer by Darryl Greene helped UNH cut into a nine-point lead.
The entire second half was close, but Le Moyne would not relinquish the lead once. The Chargers got as close as one point in the final seconds and Le Moyne led by as many as nine at the 5:48 mark. Back-to-back Le Moyne free throws with 20 seconds left in the game gave the Dolphins a six-point lead. UNH answered with another Greene three-pointer with 11 seconds left. Le Moyne then missed back-to-back free throws and the Chargers regained possession. Greene was then fouled with three seconds and hit the front end of two shots. Cassius Chaney grabbed the offensive rebound after Greene's second shot and was fouled with one second remaining. Chaney hit one of two shots as the Chargers nearly forced overtime.
Chaney led the team with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Greene added 17 points, while Sean Harris, Ruskay and Kelvin Jackson each added nine points.
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, February 17 when they host the College of Saint Rose at Charger Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
