New Haven Drops Season Finale to Adelphi

(02-24-10) GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team dropped their final game of the 2009-10 season Wednesday night with a 48-79 loss to Adelphi University. The Chargers conclude the season with a 5-22 overall record and 5-17 record in the Northeast-10 Conference.

New Haven fell behind early on Wednesday night. The Panthers opened the game with a 9-0 run and took a 10-point lead with 14:14 left in the first half. Before the end of the half, Adelphi opened a 23-point, 42-19, lead with 1:24 on the clock. The Chargers cut the lead to 22 points, 45-23, at halftime.

Struggling from the floor, the Chargers fell behind by 28 points with 17:40 left in the second half. The Panthers improved upon their lead throughout the second half. They led by as many as 36 points, 75-39, in the final minutes. New Haven cut it to 29 in the final minute, but the Panthers finished the win with a jumper.

Senior Cassius Chaney led the team in his final game with 16 points and nine rebounds. Fellow seniors Darryl Greene and Kelvin Jackson each added six points. 

The story Wednesday night was the Chargers shooting percentage, connected on just 14-of-50 shots. The Chargers also made just 18.8 percent of their three-point attempts. Sixteen turnovers also haunted the UNH offense.

The 2009-10 UNH men's basketball season concludes with the loss. The Chargers went 5-22 overall and 5-17 in the Northeast-10.
