Women's Soccer Downs Pace, 2-0

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team defeated Pace University 2-0 Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Setters fall to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Just 14 minutes into the game, Holly Dawson (Banffshire, Scotland/The Gordon School, Huntly) put the Chargers ahead 1-0. The junior had two shots prior to her goal blocked by the Golden Knight defense. One minute later, St. Rose attempted to answer back, but goalkeeper Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) recorded a save to keep the score 1-0. Pace tallied two additional shots on goal in the first half, before the Chargers went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the 52nd minute, Lucy Francisco (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence ) gave the Chargers a two-goal lead when she netted her second goal of the season. The Chargers registered another seven shots in the second half, while Pace riffled five shots on goal, which were all saved by Taylor.

UNH led 17-13 in shots and 12-2 in corner kicks. Both goalkeepers shots eight shots on goal, while the Setters were called for eight more fouls than the Chargers, 18-10.

Dawson led the Chargers with five shots, including three shots on goal. Monica Yanez (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) added three shots, while four other Chargers tallied two shots. Taylor registered her first shutout of the season in her second win.

New Haven returns to action on Friday, September 17 when they host Bentley University in another NE-10 match at Kayo Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
