Men's Soccer Suffers Close 2-1 Loss at American International

The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell 2-1 Wednesday night at American International College. With the loss the Chargers fall to 3-5-1 overall and 2-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the NE-10.

The Yellow Jackets opened scoring in the ninth minute when they attempted their fourth shot of the short first half. New Haven did not attempt a shot until the 20th minute when Hector Pommills (Bridgeport, Conn., Kolbe Cathedral) had a header shot saved by AIC.

Pommills recorded another header opportunity off a corner kick in the 33rd minute, but the Yellow Jackets once again came up with the save. UNH then had back-to-back saves before AIC improved their lead to 2-0 in the 41st minute. Neither team registered another scoring opportunity in the first half.

After registering a number of shots in the first 20 minutes of the second half, the Chargers eventually got on the board in the 65th minute when Nick Dionne (Meriden, Conn./O.H. Platt ) netted a goal. After the goal, UNH struggled to get another scoring opportunity in the remaining 25 minutes and suffered the close 2-1 loss.

Dionne and Matt Sarrazin (Meriden, Conn./O.H. Platt ) each recorded three shots. Pommills added two shots, while three others tallied one shots each. In the net, Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck ) made nine saves for the Chargers.

New Haven returns to action on Saturday, October 2 when they host Stonehill College at Kayo Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
