BOX SCORE Box Score

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game Wednesday afternoon to American International College at Kayo Field. With the loss the Chargers fall to 3-4-2 overall and 2-3-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, the Yellow Jackets improve to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the NE-10.

The Yellow Jackets raced out of the gates controlling the majority of the possession in the first half. In the 34th minute of play, AIC drew a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box on the right side of the field. Team captain Brittany Foley stepped up and laced a shot to the upper right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead. The tally concluded Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y., Patchogue-Medford )’s scoreless streak at 496 minutes over a span of the last five games. Ali Español registered the lone shot for the Chargers, which was saved by the Yellow Jacket keeper just before halftime. New Haven trailed 1-0 at the break.

UNH was more productive in the second half, but the Yellow Jackets struck early with a goal in the 49th minute off a crossing pass inside the 18-yard box. As the Chargers gained possession for longer periods of time in the second half, they begin to create more opportunities. Meabh De Burca (County Galway, Ireland/Nat. University of Ireland-Galway) recorded the Chargers two most promising opportunities. In the 55th minute she hammered a shot that was saved and then in the 78th minute she hit a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box and hit the post on the right side. With another four corner kicks in the closing 10 minutes the Chargers could not capitalize.

Overall, De Burca led the Chargers with four shots, while four others tallied one shot. In the net, Kim Taylor made six saves. The Chargers trailed 11-8 in shots, while leading 6-5 in corner kicks.
