Men's Basketball Defeated by Saint Anselm College

Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Despite a team-high 15 points from sophomore guard Sean Harris on Saturday afternoon, the Chargers were upended by Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown on the campus of SAC. The final score of the contest was 88-59.

With the loss, UNH has now dropped six games in a row, falling to 3-13 overall and 2-11 in league competition. Saint Anselm continued its hot streak and improved to 14-3, 10-3 in the conference.

The first half of action was highlighted by tremendous shooting from the home team. Saint Anselm connected on 55 percent of its shot attempts and 50 percent of its attempts from behind the arc. In addition, the Hawks snatched a commanding 26-7 advantage on the glass, including an 8-0 edge on the offensive end. The Chargers made just 35 percent of their shots and found themselves with a large deficit at halftime, trailing 47-24.

Freshman Justin Exum led the attack for the Chargers, posting nine points and four rebounds in the opening stanza. Robert Jamerson added eight points and Jeremy Williams tossed in seven to go along with three boards. The Hawks’ Jack Keough led all scorers with 17 points at the break.

After the intermission, the Chargers fared better on both sides of the ball, but were not able to overturn their deficit. The Hawks were once again consistent shooting the ball from the floor and seldom allowed UNH a second chance on offense. At the sound of the final buzzer, the Hawks had won their second consecutive game and sixth out of their last seven.

Saint Anselm finished with a 43-23 advantage on the boards and forced 15 turnovers by the Chargers offense. The Hawks also made 10-of-24 (42 percent) from long distance and tossed in 10 more free-throws than the Chargers.

Harris came on strong late and compiled a team-high 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in the game for New Haven. Williams finished with 13 points, Jamerson added 12 and Exum chimed in with nine.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, January 25 with a home game against Southern New Hampshire. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
