Ribeiro Lifts Men's Soccer to Victory at Molloy, 1-0

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team, lifted by an 18th minute goal by Firmiano Ribeiro (Barreiras, Brazil/B.M.C. Durfee / Franklin Pierce University), defeated Molloy College 1-0 Wednesday night on Long Island. The Chargers improved to 1-7-2 on the season, while the Lions fell to 0-10-1 with the loss.

Ribeiro put the Chargers ahead early in Wednesday's game and the team held on through the complete 72 remaining minutes. The junior recorded two shots, while Joseph D'Antonio and Dave Ljungquist (Oxford, Conn./Seymour) each posted two shots as well. Jonathan Creem (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck ) started in the net for the Chargers and posted one save in the complete game shutout.

New Haven opened the match with eight shots in the first half, while holding Molloy to just four. Ribeiro, Ljungquist and Joel Rodriguez (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan ) each registered shots in the opening four minutes for the Chargers. After a number of Molloy fouls, UNH netted the go-ahead and eventual game-winner in the 18th minute. D'Antonio also recorded a header shot in the 23rd minute and Josh Allen (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK ) recorded one in the 44th minute.

In the second half, a majority of the game was played in the midfield. The Chargers posted just one shot, while Molloy recorded seven opportunities.
