BOX SCORE BOX SCORE

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team fell short to Northeast-10 foe UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon by the score of 2-0. The Chargers are now 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the NE-10. The River Hawks are 7-2-2 and 6-2-1 in the conference.

The first half featured an aggressive showing from New Haven early on as they were able to keep the ball on UMass Lowell's side of the field during the first several minutes of play. Lucy Francisco (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence ) and Courtney Marra (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate) placed two shots on goal within the first 20 minutes of regulation, however, the remainder of the half favored the River Hawks as they out shot New Haven, six to four at the break.

It didn't take UMass Lowell very long to get on the board in the second half. Just seven minutes into the period, Brittany Russo found the back of the net to put the River Hawks ahead 1-0. Seconds later, UMass Lowell added some insurance on a goal from Keanna Santos.

New Haven could not respond from that point on as they fell to the River Hawks, 2-0. As a team, the Chargers recorded nine shots compared to their opponents 16 but both teams notched five saves. Francisco led the Chargers with two shots on goal while Marra, Shannon Morales (Bloomfield, Conn./Northwest Catholic) and Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport) all tallied one a piece.

New Haven returns to the field on Wednesday, October 12 for a road contest at the College of Saint Rose. Game time is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
