SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior forward Lucy Francisco (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence ) scored a go-ahead goal in the 66th minute to lead the University of New Haven women's soccer team in a 2-1 victory over American International College Wednesday night. The Chargers improved to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

After allowing three shots in the first 11 minutes, New Haven opened an early lead with a header goal by Shannon Morales (Bloomfield, Conn./Northwest Catholic) in the 17th minute off the Chargers first shot of the game. New Haven recorded four more shots in the first half, while the Yellow Jackets tallied five before evening the score in the 44th minute. AIC scored its first, and only, goal of the game off a corner kick with just over one and a half minutes left in the first half.

The Yellow Jackets also tallied more shots than the Chargers in the second half, but all UNH needed was one. AIC recorded four shots in the first 20 minutes, while UNH posted only two. In the 66th minutes, Francicso received a loose ball from Nicole Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven / Stonehill College) inside the 18-yard box and buried the ball in the far corner. The Yellow Jackets added another four shots in the final minutes, including three shots on goal which were all saved by Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford).

Francisco led the Chargers with four shots, including two shots on goal. Pacapelli and Morales each added two shots each. Taylor allowed one goal and made eight saves in the win.
