Penmen Outlast Women's Basketball, 71-60

BOX SCORE MANCHESTER, N.H. - The University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference contest 71-60 at Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Chargers fell to 2-13 overall and 2-9 in the NE-10. The Penmen improved to 14-3 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

Anh-Dao Tran (Webster, Mass./Holy Name) led the Chargers with 18 points on 7-of-17 from the floor. She added five assists and four rebounds. Nikita Reddy (Germantown, Md./Germantown) scored 13 points and Aquillin Hayes (Harlem, N.Y./Wings Academy) added 10 points to nine rebounds on the afternoon.

In the opening 13 minutes of the first half, New Haven and Southern New Hampshire exchanged baskets in a very closely contested game. The lead was exchanged nine times and the game was tied on five different occasions. With 7:05 left in the half, SNHU took a one-point lead off a layup by Sloane Sorrell. She was also fouled and converted on the three-point play. The Penmen then went on a 7-0 run to take a six-point lead, 35-29, with 4:27 left. Tran hit a three-pointer and the Penmen put in another basket at the 2:56 as the final points of the first half. SNHU led by five, 37-32, at halftime.

Southern New Hampshire scored the first six points of the second half and opened an 11-point lead, 43-32, three minutes into the second half. The Penmen maintained a 10-point lead throughout most of the second half. Reddy hit a three-pointer at the 5:38 mark to cut the Penmen lead to nine points, 59-50. SNHU then closed out the win with a double-figure lead for the final minutes.

Southern New Hampshire led in two key statistical categories Saturday afternoon. The Penmen led 12-5 in points off turnovers and 15-4 in second-chance points.
