Anderson, Williams Score 18, Lead Men's Basketball to Victory

BOX SCORE COLCHESTER, Vt. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team defeated Saint Michael's College 75-65 Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference game in Vermont. The Chargers improved to 12-4 overall and 8-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win. The Purple Knights, who had won three-straight going into Tuesday, fall to 7-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) and Jeremy Williams (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) both scored 18 points in the win. Anderson added sic rebounds, two blocks and two assists in the game. Justin Exum (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) added 14 points and six rebounds as well.

New Haven and Saint Michael's opened Tuesday night exchanging points for the first five minutes. The Purple Knights held an 11-8 lead before the Chargers went on an 8-0 run to take a five point lead, 16-11. New Haven would hold on to the narrow lead throughout the remaining 14 minutes of the first half. Saint Michael's came as close as one point, while the Chargers led by as many as five points. The Chargers shot 45-percent from the floor in the first half, while the Purple Knights were held to 38-percent shooting.

With the first two baskets after the break, the Purple Knights regained the lead just 50-seconds into the second half. Ade Barek (London, England/West Catholic / Saint Petersburg College) gave the Chargers the lead again with a jumper in the paint on New Haven's next possession. After three tied scores, New Haven again regained the lead by five points at the 11:21 mark off a Jerffery Adkins layup. Barek would eventually give the Chargers a 10-point lead, 66-56, with 2:43 left in the second half. The Purple Knights cut the lead within single digits in the final minutes, but the Chargers connected on 9-of-10 free throws in the final 1:30 to seal their 12th win of the season.

The Chargers out-rebounded the Purple Knights 34-26, but both teams totalled 17 second-chance points off 10 offensive rebounds. UNH shot 49-percent from the floor in the game, while Saint Michael's connected on 40-percent. The Chargers controlled the paint Tuesday as well, leading the points in the paint 24-10.
