Le Moyne Trips Chargers, 1-0

BOX SCORE WEST HAVEN, Conn. – A goal just over five minutes into the match accounted for the only scoring as the University of New Haven men’s soccer team fell to Le Moyne, 1-0, on Kayo Field on Tuesday afternoon. The loss eliminates the Chargers from Northeast-10 Tournament contention.

With one match remaining in 2012, New Haven stands at 6-9-1 overall and 3-8-1 in the Northeast-10. The Dolphins improve to 7-7-1 on the season and 6-5-1 in conference play.

The lone marker came courtesy of Casey Murphy in the sixth minute. Murphy took a long ball from Emmanuel Chanelo and chipped it over the head of the Chargers’ goalkeeper, Anastasios Petridis (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon ), who had vacated the net to challenge the play.

New Haven had two late chances to tie the score but both came up empty. A shot by Andres Torres (Medellín, Colombia/Norwalk (Conn.) / Adelphi University) on an empty net was blocked by the Dolphins’ Bob Buchanan, and a free kick taken by Oskar Sewerin (Stockholm, Sweden/Östra Reals Gymnasium) from just outside the box was blocked by Le Moyne’s defensive wall.

Petridis made four saves for the Chargers, while Matthew Silva turned away three shots to preserve the clean sheet.

New Haven closes out 2012 on Friday, Oct. 26 on Kayo Field at 4 p.m. against Saint Anselm. The Chargers will honor their graduating Class of 2013 prior to the match.
