BOX SCORE NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men’s soccer team was unable to break through in a 2-0 loss at crosstown and Northeast-10 rival Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday evening at Jess Dow Field.
With the loss, the Chargers even their record at 3-3-0 and fall to 1-2 in Northeast-10 play. The Owls remain unbeaten at 4-0 with a 3-0 conference tally.
The Owls’ first goal came in the 56th minute. Luke Perry dribbled from the corner all the way in front of the net and crossed to Daquan King. King redirected the ball into the far side of the vacated cage to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
Southern Connecticut State would add an insurance goal in the 76th minute on a penalty kick converted by Mario Costa to round out the 2-0 final tally.
Anastasios Petridis (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon ) made two saves for the Chargers. Greg Cumpstone preserved the clean sheet with four stops for the Owls.
Each club took seven shots in total and four on target.
