WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Merrimack on Saturday evening under the lights on Kayo Field. The Chargers fall to 1-11-1 overall with a 1-8-0 Northeast-10 record.

Merrimack, which advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA East Region Championship last season, improves to 10-3-0 on the season and 8-2-0 in the conference.

James Pyatsky (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Garden City) made nine saves for the Chargers, including several diving efforts that kept the deficit at 1-0 until the 80th minute.

Merrimack's Oscar Zepeda Cagide scored the eventual game-winner in the 38th minute, with Henrique Etges adding a tally out of a scrum in the 80th minute and Mattias Drummond scoring with just eight seconds to go as the Chargers pressed forward offensively looking to get on the board.

New Haven's best scoring chances came in the second half. A Sal DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington / Central Connecticut State University) one-timer hit the crossbar in the 71st minute and, in the 88th minute, JP DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) was unable to redirect a cross while barreling toward a vacated net.

Jose Silva made four saves to preserve the Warriors' sixth shutout of the season.

The Chargers' homestand continues on Tuesday, Oct. 22 with a visit from crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State. The 7 p.m. match on Kayo Field follows a 4 p.m. women's soccer contest featuring New Haven and visiting Pace.
