No. 7 American International Ends Chargers’ Unbeaten Start

BOX SCORE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team saw its eight-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Wednesday evening at the hands of No. 7 American International. The Yellow Jackets, who are yet to allow a goal in 2013, dealt the Chargers' their first loss of the fall by a count of 4-0.

The Chargers now stand at 5-1-3 on the season with a 2-1-1 Northeast-10 tally. Nationally-ranked AIC – the defending regular-season champions of the NE-10 – remain perfect at 8-0-0 with a 6-0-0 conference mark.

The squads played to a scoreless draw through 26 minutes before Caroline Boyce netted her seventh goal of the season to put the Yellow Jackets on top, 1-0. Second-half markers by Roxy Lee-Stewart, Alyssa Werbicki and Sonia Basma capped the AIC scoring as the Yellow Jackets' defense maintained its season-long clean sheet.

Moriah Saidel (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) turned away three shots in goal for the Chargers, while Samantha Tabak stopped all four attempts that she faced for AIC.

Nicole Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven / Stonehill College) fired three shots on target with the fourth coming off the foot of Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate). The Chargers were outshot, 18-10, overall.

New Haven continues its three-match road trip on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Merrimack. The away swing concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State before action returns to Kayo Field on Saturday, Oct. 12 with a 1 p.m. visit from Franklin Pierce.
