The Chargers drop to 1-12-1 overall and 1-9-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Owls improved to 6-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference play.

The Chargers managed six shots on goal in the game and Stephen Sasso stopped every attempt for Southern Connecticut State. New Haven's Sal DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington / Central Connecticut State University) registered two shots on goal, while Oscar Sewerin put two shots on frame, both hitting the crossbar.

In the 22nd minute of the first half Sewerin recorded the Chargers' best opportunity when he fired a free kick from 30-yards out. His shot hit the crossbar in the upper 90 of the goal before bouncing directly down and nearly across the goal line.

Southern Connecticut State's eventual game-winner came in the 40th minute when Mads Larson scored an unassisted goal with a low shot across the body of UNH goalkeeper James Pyatsky (Stewart Manor, N.Y./Garden City). Larson's goal was his third of the season and gave the Owls a 1-0 lead five minutes prior to halftime.

The teams went back-and-forth through 25 minutes of the second half before the Owls took a two-goal advantage. In the 72nd minute Daquan King scored his third of the season off a crossing pass from Alex Soriano from inside the 18-yard box.

Another free kick for Sewerin in the 90th minute was New Haven's last opportunity. The sophomores shot was punched high and again went off the crossbar, this time bouncing back in play to a Southern Connecticut State defender. The clock ran out and the Chargers suffered a 2-0 loss.

Pyatsky recorded three saves. The Chargers combined for a total of 16 shots, while the Owls recorded nine.
