Football Hosts Pace in '13 Home Opener

THE FIRST LOOK
New Haven (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) opens its Northeast-10 Conference and home schedule when Pace (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) travels to Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Both teams are in search of their first victory of the season after dropping opening weekend matchups. The Chargers lost 45-14 at West Chester, while the Setters fell to Division II newcomer Alderson Broaddus 31-28 in Philippi, W.Va. Ranked in the top 20 in both preseason polls, New Haven was out-gained 515-295 and trailed for the entire game at West Chester. Trailing 17-14 at halftime, Pace took a 21-17 lead in the third quarter. Alderson Broaddus responded with 14 unanswered points and sealed the victory in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter. New Haven and Pace have played each of the previous four seasons since UNH joined the Northeast-10 Conference, and the Chargers are a perfect 4-0 all-time against the Setters.

LAST MEETING
The then ranked No. 7/10 New Haven defeated Pace 44-10 Saturday, Sept. 15 at Pace Field in week three of the 2012 season. With the win, UNH improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Setters dropped to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Pace jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on the first possession of the game, but the Chargers answered with 44-straight points. With just over a minute left in the fourth quarter, the Setters scored the game's final points off a two-yard touchdown run. The Chargers ran for 279 yards on 40 attempts and held Pace to 22 yards rushing on 29 carries in the win. Mike DeCaro (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay ) led the team with 93 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Five other backs recorded at least 10 rushing yards, while Ronnie Nelson (Stuart, Fla./South Fork ) amassed 152 yards and three touchdowns on 8-of-10 passing. The UNH defense held Pace to 246 total yards on 71 plays with 25 different players recording a tackle in the win..
